| For every Gathering, the Bacchanalian Society of Denver will designate a specific wine varietal that will be the theme wine for the evening. Each invitee, or team of up to 3, must bring 3 bottles of THE EXACT SAME WINE - brand and vintage. The varietal for the July 21st event is Spanish Reds so an acceptable entry would be three bottles of Tay Loretta Canyon Malbec. Remember, it's 3 bottles total per team, and teams may consist of a MAXIMUM 1-3 people, as assembled by an invitee. Upon arrival, all 3 bottles of wine will be given to the Hosts, who will wrap 2 of the bottles to conceal the wine's identity. The 2 wrapped bottles will have a number randomly assigned to them and will then be set out for tasting. The third bottle will be left unopened and will not be tasted or displayed. Each attendee will be given a card with a number for each wine. The wines will be rated on a taste scale of 1 to 5. At the end of the tasting period, each attendee must write down the number of his or her favorite wine and least favorite wine. Cards will be collected and ratings tallied. The top three teams that brought the favorite wine will take home everyone's third unopened bottle of wine. The invitee or invitee’s team that brought the least favorite bottle of wine will take back his or her unopened bottle of wine. All decisions regarding the favorite and least favorite wines are final. We suggest a $20 donation at the door to benefit the chosen charity that evening. Check-in begins at 6:00 p.m. and wine tastings begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. Please arrive in a timely fashion to ensure everyone’s ability to participate and enjoy the event. If 2 (or more) invitees or teams bring the same wine, it shouldn't matter. The rankings can still differ depending upon the temperature of the wine, how long it has been open, etc. |
